Sea Fever

Selected for the We Love Your Books Exhibition at University of Northampton, 2012.
Chosen to be showcased in the Cabinet of Curios Exhibition at Orso Major Gallery, 2014.

The theme for this piece was 'minute' - tiny. I created four small message-in-a-bottle pieces made from book pages, each depicting a line from the poem Sea Fever by John Masefield, which are also wrapped around the cork stoppers. The poem goes as follows (I've only used the first verse for this piece otherwise I would need lots of bottles!):

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sails shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.
