An unique and innovative pop-up book concept, retold and illustrated by me. The Nutcracker: A Papercut Pop-up Book, consists of 4 lasercut scenes that pop open. Each scene contains intricate details and illustrations, sure to mesmerise readers with their dainty charm!
The Nutcracker was inspired by Paperscopes (these are tubes of paper which contain paper scenes inside). I wanted to create a novelty book concept never-before-seen in bookshops, something which was fairly simple and didn't involve many mechanisms, like those found in traditional paper-engineered books. After lots of experimentation, I came up with the perfect solution of placing a Paperscope scene inside a book format, before pitching the idea to Thames & Hudson. Below, are a few photos of this novelty book in it's early prototype form.
Available in all good UK bookstores and online. Also available in France, Japan and Poland.
